When Forlorn Gaze’s dreams of recording their first album are cruelly dashed due to a lack of finances, their manager Phil Wood books them a gig at a local emo “scene” party. At the party, we discover Sheldon’s outsider status and glimpse the motivation behind his self-assured dreams of success.

During Forlorn Gaze’s performance, tragedy strikes when a PA stack falls and kills the party’s host – none other than the queen of the local emo scene, Violet Stryfe. The lurid details of the tragedy leak out, and TV current affairs programs rush to cover the teen party trauma. Suddenly, Forlorn Gaze are catapulted to national attention. Sheldon is horrified, but Phil knows its the first step to `making it'.
