Forlorn Gaze
2005 - 2009: Television series, web series, social media, real world : Director/ Producer / Co-Creator
Sheldon D’Arc is the singer/songwriter for the emo band Forlorn Gaze. His dream is to become famous, to be someone important in a celebrity obsessed world. With his band mates, and manager Phil Wood, Sheldon sets off on a journey taking him from desperate obscurity to the even more desperate heights of success.
This dark satirical series follows Sheldon’s journey through the music industry where the record deals, the music videos and the pervasive myth of “making it” are all hilariously deconstructed. Sheldon discovers that talent and hard work often lose out to luck, lies and manipulation. These underhanded tactics prove useful as the band navigate their way to success just as the traditional music industry collapses into a brave new world of convergent multimedia.
In the Gen-Y universe that Sheldon inhabits, fame, celebrity and shameless self-marketing are the norms. In an era when life itself is a performance, will Sheldon’s roller-coaster of self-confidence derail him before the “real” Sheldon can emerge?
Mirroring Sheldon’s media savvy world, Forlorn Gaze already have an established presence on blogs, online video and social networking sites. Sheldon has a legion of emo followers while Phil has people breathlessly waiting for his next music industry insight. Forlorn Gaze online has already delivered real world interactions, online pranks, mini-episodes and interviews with music celebrities.
Forlorn Gaze are also a real band, They’ve played The Falls and Soundwave Festivals and they are currently in the process of recording their first album.
